Cora Kindergarten Spring Conference

Cora had her spring conference this morning...  we had this early due to her teacher is going to be having a baby in the next few weeks!  Very exciting.

We have been having some issues with Cora's behavior at school...  nothing too serious, but enough that we have been getting emails from the teacher and have had to have some conversations with Cora.  It's unfortunate... and the majority of the conference was regarding her behavior.  Academically she's doing amazing...  beyond where she 'needs' to be in Kindergarten.  She's reading at 1st Grade level, as well as writing/sight words are at 1st Grade.  Her math is going super well too - a big strength is what the teacher called her math.

So back to the behavior - Cora is a super strong leader (which we are proud of, and will probably benefit her when she gets older), but in the classroom it's getting in the way.  The teacher said several times - "let's take those good powers and apply them positively, not negatively." (in so many words)  Cora needs reminded often to keep on task... as she either distracts others, or others easily distract her.  And she needs to chose the 'right time' to socialize... and make kind choices.  This is the big one - she has a 'friend' in her class whom may or may not have a love/hate relationship with.  They feed off each other - they both have strong personalities - they both are bossy... and cute.  ha.  These two have had some isolated problems lately...

Basically - we are stuck in a hard place...  Cora's smart, and knows better, but she just needs to apply herself and be kind to the people around her.  The teacher is going to continue to be a little more 'strict' with her in hopes to nip this. She also will be attempting to keep Cora and the other little girl separated as much as possible.  I worry about the substitute coming in... I hope Cora adjusts ok and doesn't push her buttons.

I've prayed about this so much lately...  so I just hope that Cora learns that we are always respectful, we are always kind and we keep our hands to ourselves.

Anyway, overall - Cora's doing well in school, which we are obviously proud of.
