Weekend - Fall Ball & CESOD Big/Little gathering

What a weekend.

Friday night, Cora started to perk up...  She was still pretty 'off', but seemed to be better.  Kayson hung out with some neighbors, and Cora, Ryan and I went to Target and walked around... mostly to just get Cora out of the house.

Saturday - Fall baseball started!  The Aces team decided to do three fall ball tournaments... and I'm glad we did.  Saturday was nice to see everyone again... and the weather was good too.  The boys did pretty well, lost two, won one, but that's ok.  It was a good day.

Saturday evening, Kayson went with Ben - hung out and spent the night with him.  They always have fun, and now that Ben has moved to Adel, they don't see each other every day.  Ryan, Cora and I went to Ryan's work's Falliday Party they have each year.  Food trucks and bounce houses.  It was a lot of fun to catch up with some of Ryan's friends...  Cora had a good time too.  She got brave and went on the bounce house a couple times...  made me nervous, but she was good.  And she was happy.

Sunday - Dance.  Kayson got home around noon.  We just hung out and got a few things done around the house, and groceries.  Ryan then needed to get into to work, so Cora, K and I went to Raccoon River for a CESOD Big/Little gathering.  This is where the entire competition team gets together and the dancers form 'families' of big and littles and have team building.  Kayson went fishing there, so that was fun for him...  and I just hung out with the moms.  It was a really nice time.

By the time we got home, Cora was wiped... as she should be.  It all catches up to her and was ready to chill.

Overall, good weekend... busy...  but ready to relax a little.

Hard cast #1

Today was the day to get the full arm hard cast.
I kept Cora home from school due to the appointment being in the middle of the day.

We all got to the appointment... and they instantly started taking off the splint.  Everything was going well... and went well for Cora, but unfortunately, I was not well.  I started getting pale and having a hard time breathing...  I was about to pass out.  I felt awful and cried and cried.  Ryan of course, was so awesome with Cora... and Cora did well too.  She was SUPER upset that the hard cast is a full one - pretty much up to her armpit.  There were so many tears and her just being mad.  I felt awful and still do.
She really got upset once we were home - cried more and said she never wanted to go back there.
Unfortunately, there is still some swelling, so we will have to go back next Friday for a new cast.  This all seems like such a process... and it's overwhelming.

We are all pooped and just really want this to be over with.

Weekend - Iowa football

Ryan, K and Jesse and Ian headed over to the Iowa football game Saturday afternoon... a night game, which is always super cool.  Unfortunately, there was weather happening, and the game was delayed shortly after halftime (I think).  It actually ended up being delayed for over 3 hours!!!  The boys did not stay, they bailed out... which was smart!

They got home super late.

BUT - I have so many pictures of their day, and I love that!!

She is so loved! Update!

Cora is doing ok...  we've definitely had some ups and some downs with the broken wrist, but we are getting there.

Thursday (day of after accident and met with surgeon) - She was pretty emotional, and tired.  She had several deliveries of flowers and balloons...  she had a couple visitors too, which was super nice.  By the end of the night, she was wiped out - extremely emotional, lots of tears.  She was able to get some good rest...  took her a long time to get comfortable in bed, but once she did, she slept well - and she needed that.

Friday - She went to school!  I took her a little late, just so we could take out time, and talk with the nurse and teacher.  She was anxious to go and see her friends.

Saturday - She got some good rest, which was much needed.  Then she had been asked to go to a birthday party for her friend Brooklyn.  I almost said no, but it was important to her, and I trusted Brooklyn's mom to just keep an extra eye on sis.  They had a great time...  and Cora did amazing.  She's lucky to have such nice friends.

Pics of the few things she got, love those smiles.

Cora - Broken arm!

Wednesday evening at tumbling... Cora had a freak accident and broke her left arm.  When I even think back the 18 hours, I get so overwhelmed.  She was so brave and so strong...

I was called by Charlee - got Cora picked up and rushed her to Mercy West ER.  Unfortunately, the ER is not fast (now I know that we weren't really an 'emergency', and they are probably short staffed), but after 2 hours of not even been seen, I was losing my patience, and so was Cora.  Ryan told me to go home for a little bit to check on Kayson... so I did.  Once I did, things started moving along.  Figures!

While I was home with Kayson - the doctor and nurses finally came in...
  • Cora was given some medication to calm her and help with pain
  • X Rays were taken
  • Cora was unfortunately sedated in order to 'set' her wrist back in place (Ryan could not be in the room during that time)
  • She was given a splint type cast for now
  • The medication was lowered and fluids and oxygen were given and she recovered from the sedation
    • I arrived back at the ER just in time for her to come out of the sedation.
    • and with this --- wow, Cora is normally funny...  and coming out of that, she was hilarious.  It definitely lightened the 'load' a little.  She was seeing double, and talking about it - "Mom why do you have two heads?"  "Dad - you have 4 eyes!!"  She talked and talked to the doctor and nurses...  they were amazing with her.  Very pleased... once they were there!  ha.

We were at the ER for nearly 5 hours... not ideal, but it was the best place for her.
We got home and settled about 10:45.  She did sleep pretty well until about 3:00 am - then she was pretty restless...  just couldn't get comfortable.  No pain, just not feeling it!  She then rested fairly well for til about 7ish.  Still not long enough, but it was something.

We were able to see the Orthopedic Surgeon this morning, which was a god send.  Unfortunately, nothing was done, but we talked with him (he seems amazing too), and we have a plan.  She will get a full arm cast next Friday, the 23rd. Cora was super disappointed to hear that she wouldn't have a cast 'now', but she also doesn't really understand the swelling process and just waiting...  So... we wait, and we will get through this.

Cora is pretty emotional about all of this...  scared, sad, mad... and keeps saying - "I didn't want this to happen!"  Poor thing.  Just breaks my heart.   I think if we can get through the weekend just resting and getting use to the splint, then we will be in good shape.

School pictures!

#BacktoDance - CESOD

Cora's been back to dance for a little while now... starting on some Production choreography and large group too...  So we've been dabbled back in.

But Monday was the official day of #BacktoDance!  We are now back to fall classes, as well as full force ahead on Sundays for competition dances!

Here's her line up so far --

Production - "911 What's your Emergency?"

Large Group - "Let's go Crazy"

Large Group - "Coconut"

Large Group/Hip Hop  - "SpongeBob"

Small Group - "Wepa"

Trio (with Tenley and Cora A) - "Cho Cho Ch'Boogie"

She's got a full plate, but she says she's ready.

Cora - 10 year old stats

I can't believe we are having a 10 year well check for sis...  I hate that time is going so fast, and she's just growing up so quickly.

We met with Dr. Beebe... always a pleasant visit, we really like her.  No shots, just a good look over.  We talked about allergies, and have been referred to an allergist.  We'll see what happens... we may wait until next year to actually do anything, but we'll see.

Her stats --

89 lbs (82%)

4' 9" (83%)

She's grown about 2 inches... and it shows.  I feel like she's just grown fast the last 6 months!  Overall, she's doing well, and Beebe has no concerns.

Weekend

We had a nice weekend...

Friday - of course Kayson was out with friends... Waukee football game.  I love that he's doing things with his friends and supporting the sports, but man, we barely see him anymore!  The rest of us just hung out at home...  pretty uneventful!

Saturday - Iowa football game vs ISU. A big game... and unfortunately, for the first time in 8 years I think - Iowa lost.  Such a bummer.  Ryan, Mike, Lester, Kayson, Ben and Brody headed over to Iowa City late morning...  did some tailgating and then game time.  In addition to the loss - they got poured on in the 4th quarter.  Man, that's not fun at all!!!

They got home around 8:45...  and we took Ben home.  I think Ben had fun...  he's a nice kid, and glad Kayson has him as a friend.

Sunday - Cora has started up dance again!  We are now all in - Sundays, Mondays and Wednesdays.  Still the same schedule, but Sundays will be much longer!  She's now in 6 competition dances!  That's a lot!

I did some laundry, and just hung out honestly... was a nice day.  Kelsey came over and we went for a long walk, which was nice.  Nice to catch up with her too.

Just a few pics of the weekend...

Allergies :(

Writing this one down.  Allergies suck!  ha.

Both Cora and I have been miserable the last couple months...  and I believe us being at the farm the last weekend for two days, really put us over the edge.

I have been so miserable... so I went to the doctor today.  Typically I can fight through this, but I was irritated.  I don't have a sinus infection YET, he did say it probably would have turned into one.  But right now, we are concentrating on the allergy portion.  So he gave me a shot to help.  Man I hope this helps and doesn't make me feel 'weird'.  I just want them to calm down and not be itchy anymore.

Next week we go to Cora's well check - I'm going to ask what to do for her, as she can be pretty miserable too.

Labor Day weekend 2022

Friday: No school for the kids.  I mean, why would they have school??  Gosh, they are only 2 weeks in and we already have a 4 day weekend!  The kids did their own thing Friday while I worked.  Cora hung with Ella for a couple hours, and K was with Matt and Ben.  I got some solid work done, then started my weekend around 1:00.  It was nice.

Saturday: First Iowa football game, but we decided against going... and headed to Creston/Diagonal for the day (and Sunday).  Headed down to the farm to hang, watch the game, and play.  It was nice to have some time with just Grandma Janis... she just loves when we are there, makes me happy.

We headed back to Creston to hang with Martina and the kids...  have pizza and just hang out.  It was a pretty good evening.

Sunday: Unfortunately, Landry woke not feeling well... and Martina ended up testing her for COVID and it was positive.  Not thrilled.  She had been hanging on Cora all morning, along with just sleeping in the same room.  Super frustrating. We got our stuff together and headed out to the farm.  Probably should have just went home since we were exposed, but we didn't.  Martina stayed back with Lanny...  and the rest of them headed to the farm.

We had a nice time at the farm... just hung outside in a big circle of chairs and visited.  Cora's allergies hit her hard there (2nd day in a row for fresh air and farm air), that'll do it.  She was a mess.  :(

But overall, fun to be there for the day.

Sunday evening we headed home... and went over to Showalter's.  Hung with them and Koch's and Infante's, so that was nice.  Haven't seen them all in a long time, so that was fun.

Monday: a free day, no school, no work.  Cora slept til nearly 10!!  She needed it.  I did a ton of laundry and stuff around the house.  Ryan and K mowed the lawn.  Cora did some crafts and was lazy!  It was a wonderful free day.
