Kayson/Weekend

Well, the weekend is over...
and Kayson is back to 100%.  Actually, he told me this morning --- "I think I'm about 99% Mom".  I asked him what was the other 1% -- "Tired Mom"  :)

Our Friday night was interesting.  Kayson napped for a bit that afternoon, then perked up a little bit.  By 5:00 he seemed ok actually.  And as you know on Friday's, I don't really like to cook... so we decided to go out.  Big mistake.  The kid got sick shortly after eating... right there in the parking lot.  Gosh - what great parents huh?!  I felt awful.

We hurried home...  washed him off, and he was in bed around 7:15.  He slept all night and said he felt good Saturday morning.  But by mid morning, he was tired again - still a little pale and just wasn't himself.  We had an errand to run, so again, we all did that together and then grabbed some lunch.  Another little mistake.  He just wasn't up for it.  We got home, and he rested a little...  but then he wanted to go to basketball.  I'm not going to lie - I thought for sure that would be a disaster and he would be sitting out.  I stayed home with Cora, but K went with Ryan.  And an hour and half later - they were home, and he said he felt good and had fun.  WTH!

Saturday night Ryan and I went out with some friends for dinner...  I was a little nervous about leaving Kayson, but the babysitter is really great, and we kept in contact most of the night!  She said he ate well, and seemed fine.

Anyway, about 4 months ago, I had asked a high school friend of Ryan's to see if we could get together sometime soon (kinda for Ryan - he just doesn't see any of his old friends often... I thought it would be nice).  The last time we had seen them was at TJ's Dad's funeral which was about a year and half ago.  I finally heard back from TJ's wife, and they were going to be in town this weekend and let's get together.  They are also good friends with our friends/neighbors, Jess and Lex... so they were invited as well... and off we went to dinner.  We had a really nice time... interesting to have Creston talk, DSM talk, and then Jess and Mindy have their own talks too - as they've known each other for years.  So crazy.

Anyway...  Sunday we did church, then quickly went to watch cousin Duke play basketball.  Back home... Cora rested, Kayson took it easy, Ryan rested, I got groceries and cleaned bathrooms... and then Ryan had to take off for MN around 5:00.  The kids and I ate an easy supper, then just hung out.  I think we were all tired... I miss/ed Ryan terribly, even though he'll be home tonight.   It was a quiet Sunday night.

Here's to a good week...

Friday -- and Sick Kayson?

I'm not going to lie. I'm really, REALLY glad it's Friday.  I'm home actually - which is nice, but unfortunately, I'm home with a little boy who doesn't feel 100%.

I got a call right about 11 this morning --- school nurse explained to me that Kayson turned white as a ghost while getting in line for lunch.  He said he didn't feel well, his tummy hurt and he was lethargic.  (and nervous I'm sure - as he has that part of me in him).  Lucky him.  Anyway, I dropped everything at work, and picked him up.

He had some color to him, but he definitely wasn't himself... and he was tired.  (Not feeling well and worrying about it wears a kid out - and a Mom).  We are now home - he's resting.  He didn't have a fever an hour ago - just didn't feel good, he kept saying.  So, I'm working... and updating the blog (cuz I can).  It's been a long week.

Ryan's been around this week... but we've all been just blah.  No excitement.  I could blame it on the weather being so droopy, and then with a small teaser of sun... just give me the sun (a warm sun) and about 65 degrees, consistently!!   I think we all need a good nights rest and start a weekend off with just us.

We'll see how things go with Kayson...  of course, I'm worried sick, cuz that's what I do.  *thumbs up*

My sister says a bug is going around, but so is strep.  And in the past, Kayson doesn't actually have a sore throat with strep, he gets the low grade fever and upset tummy.  So... we'll see.

Weekend

Friday:
We stuck at home Friday night... had dinner at home too.  Jess and Lex and kids stopped by for a bit... the kids played pretty well, and we got to talk to Jess and Lex a little.  It was a nice night.

Saturday:
We started the day playing and just hanging out.  I started cleaning a little, and laundry.  I had tons to do!!  Soon we were having lunch, and soon Blair and Martina and kids were here.  I had put Cora down for a rest, so we all could go watch Kayson play ball.  Before we knew it, she was awake and we were off to watch K.  He did pretty good... and had a couple baskets.  Blair and Martina and Tater enjoyed watching him.  Back to the house for the rest of the day...  The kids played pretty darn good.  We tried being outside a little, but the wind was just brutal.  So we just stuck inside... playing, talking and giggles.  Ryan grilled out for us - burgers, dogs and brats.  We haven't grilled forever, so it tasted really good.   We got the kids to bed at a decent time, and Martina and I just sat at the dinner table and chatted for a couple hours.

Sunday:
Blair and Martina joined us at church today... which was nice to have them there.  We did lunch out, then they took off... back to Sioux City.  We headed home, Cora rested... I did too actually.  I was tired.  Then it was time to be Mom again - groceries, more laundry, cleaning up the basement a little and disinfecting.  Cora and I went for a little walk once she was awake...  then we actually played outside a little.  Still pretty cold, but some of the neighbor kiddos came over to shoot hoops, so we were all out there.

Supper was had... and now we are having some quiet time - watching Dolphin Tale.

It was a nice weekend...  nice to have the cousins here to play.  Super bummed it's Sunday night already!

and moved on to Aunt Tina's
Then me... I got bows and bows...
and so did Aunt Tina.  Too fun.

K's #1 fan!  Thanks Tate!
and our little walk today.  She wanted to bring Murphy!

Valentine's Day 2016

Friday, Kayson had his class Valentine's Day party.  I went... and did more of the 'watching' and enjoying Kayson, rather than helping.  There are so many parents there, it kind of gets to be too much, so I just followed K from station to station, and enjoyed watching him interact.  It was a good time.

They had a mock photo booth set up.  Brilliant.  :)
Kayson and I went and picked up Cora from school... she, too, was having a little party.  I had every intention of staying and visiting, but she was ready to go, didn't want to finish her snack, nothing.  So we headed home.

Today before church, we gave the kids their little gifts.  They each got a puzzle and a cool shirt - a girly shirt for Cora, and a Golden State Warriors shirt for Kayson.  They were happy with them.

Cora May

It seems like it's been awhile since I've posted an update on Cora...  she's got a lot of quirks about her, she uses her imagination, she's stubborn and she can be the sweetest thing ever.

  • Almost daily when we get home, she immediately grabs up her baby dolls and starts playing.  She'll change their diapers (they poop a lot she says), and she even rolls up the 'dirty' diapers like we would.  It's awesome to see her little mind.
  • With the playing of the dolls, she throws in playing school or just bossing the dolls or kids around, it kind of depends on the day.  Typically she is talking like the kids do at school, or even the teachers.  She'll use her friends' names and boss them around - "Elyas make sure you are sitting good!"; "Hannah Banana is your turn to go to the bathroom"; "Elaina is my best friend"; "Elaina is so mean to me."; just examples of the things I hear.  :)
  • Cora hates to stop at night time to take a bath, still.  But once we finally get her into her room, she's fine.  She lets me undress her, but she won't let me take her socks off.  She's ticklish (like me).
  • She's starting to want to dress herself in the morning.  This has been going on for awhile, but it was pretty hit or miss...  this morning for example, she was up while I was still getting ready - she came in, said good morning, then says "I'm going to dress myself Mom."  and she did.   I find this sweet, and very helpful!
  • Eating -- we go about a week with her eating everything, then the next week is nothing.  We've got it figured out.  ha.  Last night (and the night before), she has really liked the buffalo chicken dip I made.  Ryan loves that she tried it and liked it!!
  • She doesn't sit on our laps often anymore, but every once in awhile, Ryan will ask her to sit with him, and she will...  they'll rock and talk a little.  Again, I find that so sweet.  Also with that - she loves to give hugs, big ones (I think she gives great hugs), and a kiss, then an Eskimo kiss.
  • She likes to sit and watch movies on her movie player, with her headphones.  She looks like she's 10 when she's doing that.
  • Cora loves music... and loves to sing.  We sing in the car a lot, this hasn't changed from when she was a really little girl.  Her new thing is asking me to move the review mirror so she can see herself (Um - a girl thing?!?!), and she watches herself sing in the mirror.  Lately she'll lip sing the songs and be very dramatic with her eyes and mouth, which is the funniest thing ever.
  • And one last thing...  I truly think she's the prettiest little girl I've ever seen.  :)

Weekend

Friday:
Well, Friday seems like forever ago!!!  We did dinner out, like normal...  back home and to bed.  I believe it was a super 'low' night.

Saturday:
We hung out in the morning...  this and that, laundry, cleaning, and grocery shopping.  I wanted to get that out of the way.  Mike and JeanAnn came to watch K play ball...  but JeanAnn actually stayed at the house while Cora rested, which was nice.  I was able to go with Mike to watch basketball.  Once we were home, Cora was awake and Ryan's parents took the kids to watch Colby play ball.  They had a grandparent date, is what I told them.  :)  Ryan and I enjoyed the quiet, and went dress pant shopping for Ryan.  Then we got cleaned up and met up with some old friends.  We met up with some of Ryan's Creston friends - Lindsay and Lori and their hubbies. We typically see them once a year at the Taylor bonfire, and we made sure that we got a planned dinner (and hopefully a few more through the year).  It was a super nice time...  dinner and talking for about 4 hours.

Sunday:
Church this morning...  along with a pancake lunch made by some of the men of the church (including Ryan).  This afternoon we just hung out a little... more laundry...  then Kayson had a birthday party to go to.   Tonight we hung out - I made some snackie stuff for the Super Bowl, we finished up Kayson's Valentine's box for school,  Productive little night...  and now it's bed time.  :)

Here are a few pics from the weekend.

Kayson was reading to Cora and Harmony (CareBear)

Snow Day!

Well, we got hit with some snow overnight last night...  I believe it's less than we originally thought we would get.  But regardless - Waukee schools cancelled for today (along with everyone else around us).  I was actually surprised, the burb areas don't typically cancel.  I was not complaining tho!

With cancelled school (or delayed start), we get a lovely phone call at 5:15 am.  YUK.  So that woke me and I tossed and turned for the next hour or so...  Cora soon was awake around 6:30, but she laid in bed with me for awhile.  Then she was ready for breakfast and playing with baby dolls.

Kayson slept til a little after 8:00.  We started our day...  hanging out, playing board games, lots of iPad time, I did a couple loads of laundry, I scrubbed the bathroom floors, more games, a few puzzles, litebrite and even a movie with popcorn this afternoon.  In the middle of all of that (we really did keep busy all day, and it went fairly smooth!!), we got outside and shoveled a little, and then the kids played.  Ryan's work paid for a truck with a blade to come and 'scoop' us out.  I wasn't planning on going anywhere, but it was nice to have that done.  The snow was SUPER heavy, so it would have been a process for me (and Kayson!)  Once that was done, all of us went back out and cleaned the driveway up a little more - it was pretty slushy by 4:00, so we just cleaned it up.

I fed the kids a make-shift supper of cheese quesadillas, only cuz they didn't want the soup that we had planned (and especially since Ryan isn't home).  A little more playing, then the fighting began...  it was sure time for bed!  Cora was in bed around 7:15... Kayson will be in bed in 15 minutes.  Overall, it was a good day... a good snow day.  I checked my work emails quite often, and I didn't really miss much, which was nice... I didn't have that anxiety!

Here are a few phone pics of our day.
We are praying Daddy gets home safely tomorrow...  him and his crew are stuck in SW Nebraska - literally.  The interstates closed down out there, so no getting home.  We are supposed to get more snow, them too, tonight - so I'm just hoping they can get out sometime tomorrow morning.

The truck with the blade took about 15 minutes to do the drive... then the man got out and did a little shoveling as well.  I thought that was nice.  The kids (especially Kayson) loved watching him move the snow with the blade.

After we cleaned up the drive, and sidewalks - the kids played.  Cora just rolled in the snow.
