18 Months old

Friday, Kayson was a year and a half years old. Oh my goodness!!! He's all boy - full of energy, fiesty, ornery, naughty, fun, funny, sweet - all wrapped up in one little boy.

Last night I attempted to take some pictures of him. Out of 40 shots - I got one smile. Add stinker to the list above! ;)

This morning was his 18 month well-check. Here are his stats:

Height - 33 1/4" = 80%
Weight - 26 lbs 6 oz = 58%
Head Cir - 18.5 = 28%
Doc says he's doing great - growing exactly like he should - he thinks he'll be tall due to the results... tall like his Daddy and Uncle Blair. It's funny to think that we think he's so heavy, and he's really only 26 pounds - Doc says that he's starting to 'even out' with his weight. He'll probably have another growth spurt with weight around age 2 or a little older. Kayson hated the nurse and the shots, but didn't do too bad with the Doc, so that was nice. So pretty much he's doing well!

Big Boy Room (Complete)

Kayson's room is done. The red curtains are up, the fun colored baskets are in and storing things, and the red hamper is full of dirty clothes! I love Kayson's new room... it's perfect, and will grow with him for a long time...

Totally love the baskets - just an added 'touch'.

Had to have some baby pictures - here he is at 6 weeks old!

Still using his changing pad for dirty diapers... otherwise, he pretty much hates to be on it!

Here's a full shot... perfect, little "Big Boy" room!

Sick? I say 'Yes' & 'No'

Since Monday, Kayson's been crabby... tired... fussy... by Monday night I figured out it was his teeth again. I was rubbing Baby Orajel on his gums (on the top near the other two molars that are poking through), and rubbed some on his bottom gums... WOWZA - swollen, big bumps. Man, that hurts I'm sure! We haven't slept well since Monday night... Tuesday he seemed better, but Tuesday evening was another rough night... now he was experiencing his nasty cough that he gets and a runny nose. What a mess! Makes for a sad little boy and worried Momma. Wednesday, Aunt Tina & Uncle Blair stayed with Kayson for the day - they had a good day, he was in good spirits and took great naps for them. Wednesday night was better too - still up quite a bit, but not as bad. This morning we were up early (4ish), and he was on fire!!! 100 degree temp and really fussy. We got into the doctor, to check his ears and throat... he has an ear infection in the right ear, which is all related to the cough and runny nose and sore gums. We got some meds for the ear and was told to just keep giving him Motrin and Tylenol... "it'll get better."

It's true - it WILL get better... just takes some time (about 5 days of this). He's been pretty good today... took a great long nap this morning (and so did I), and we've just layed low. He's actually snuggling with me, which is SO nice!! Usually the ear medication really helps a ton by the first night, so I'm hoping for a good nights sleep tonight.

So I'm marking this up to being sick - with other 'growing' issues (teeth). Those darn teeth can really be the devil! I was talking with my boss the other day asking if when permanent teeth come in if it's this hard or they hurt - she said no... and sure hope that's the case! I would hate to do this again when he's older!! Poor thing.

Trains & Busy Season

Trains are Kayson's favorite thing these days... "Choo-Choo" When we were in Creston this past weekend, we took advantage of the depot and trains up town... We timed it perfectly and was able to watch a train pass us and Kayson was amazed. We then were able to take some pictures near some neat looking trains... here are some of the shots. Kayson LOVED it. Thanks to Papa Mike for getting him up on the train!

This is him saying "Choo-Choo"

We had a nice weekend in Creston - a wedding Saturday night, some time out with friends too and great company (family)/lunch on Sunday for Father's Day. Kayson's got a little cold we think - little runny nose and a dry cough. I'm going to nip it in the bud and do a breathing treatment in the morning, just in case...
Ryan's busy season for work has started. It sure makes me realize how much I miss him and want him home to help with Kayson. We'll have two weeks of being gone, then home, then it starts back up... I'll be planning lots of play dates and going on tons of walks... maybe I'll then loose some weight! ;)

Sports

Ryan and I love sports... all kinds, and we sure hope that Kayson will loves sports as well. So far, so good! ha. Tonight we played outside a little, and played with a basketball, football, volleyball, baseball... Here are a few shots of our little boy in action... and at the end - with most sports, you could possibly have an injury! A scraped knee, but it's like new after a bath and some TLC.

It continues...

From my previous post, we've just continued to have some interesting moments with Buster. He's crabby, he's into everything, he now says 'NO' back to us (OMG!), he's struggling to sleep well (still think it's that new tooth)... wow, I'm tired! It was probably a good thing that we didn't have any big plans this weekend... it was best to just 'go with the flow' with him and lay low. This morning he missed his morning nap, so I suggested we wear him out at the playland place at the mall. The play time was a success, he had fun, and so did Ryan! We ate lunch (he ate maybe half of his grilled cheese), and then headed home... nap was only an hour, so I rocked with him for nearly another hour, and he snoozed so sweetly in my arms. (aaaa.... so sweet). Then enter monster again! haha.

Really - it's not that bad, but it's funny to think how much Kayson changes and shows us his little personality. We are seeing so many new things and how we are going to continue to have to be on our toes at all times! ;)

Ryan is back to work tomorrow and me too. He's had a nice little vacation - did a little of this and that, and played some golf too.

Crabby = Tooth?

We've had an interesting day today... Let me give you the run-down:
  • Kayson up a couple times in the middle of the night (clue to me is - "he doesn't feel well")
  • No morning nap (another clue that we have an unhappy baby)
  • Short afternoon nap (maybe an hour - YIKES)
  • He was even crabby when we were OUTSIDE... right there means there's something definately wrong!
  • Finally a swipe with our fingers in his mouth - and there's a tooth coming in! We have an answer - what a great feeling! ha.

I think it's a molar - it's pretty far back there and it's through the skin and everything. Poor guy, no wonder he's been crabby. A couple doses of motrin and tylenol hopefully will help through the night...

Big Boy Room (Sneek Peek)

We have made Kayson's room a little more of a 'big boy' room. We've gotten rid of the nursery look... he's all boy and he needed a 'prettier' room! Ryan and I painted on Thursday and touched up anything this morning... and then put the room back together. I'm very pleased with it... however, I can't give you the entire look of the room, because it's not really done yet. I have ordered a few more 'touches' and they won't be here til next week... but here's a sneek peek.

Videos!

Kayson LOVES LOVES marshmallows. We (being the funny parents that we are), put a trail of marshmallows down and watched Kayson go to town on them! We had to get it on video! ;)

This is Kayson playing baseball... this is the best he's hit the ball ever! So proud! (and tonight he was using his right hand!)

How cute are these?!

I've seen these flip flops for kids all over, we picked up a pair today at Target. Oh my goodness - look at those cute fat feet! ;) Kayson wasn't quite sure of them at first - probably felt weird between his toes... but he got used to them!

Our weekend was good... I spent all day at Volley's on Saturday playing in a Sand VB tourny. Wow - I'm old. It's official. We played all day - from 10 am til 6:30 pm. We got 2nd place, which was great. I think by 2:30, I couldn't feel my arches, they hurt so bad... we were all sun burnt and super tired! BUT we all did it, and it was for a good charity. I can say, I probably won't do that again - at least til next year! aha. Ryan and Kayson had a good day while I was gone... sure does make me miss him. I hate to be gone from him (and Ryan) all day on a weekend!! Today we've done this and that, including us all taking naps... I was pooped! Ryan is on vacation this week (enter jealousy here!).

Here's a picture of Kayson showing us his muscles!
