Cora - 5 Year Old Preschool

Cora has officially moved up to Miss Rocky and Miss Jenny's room at daycare...  she's in 'official' preschool.  She moved there last week, and it went well... then today (after her well check), they were starting the new preschool curriculum.  How fun.

I know she'll do great...  I just pray she does well all through Spring and Summer of next year, and doesn't become super bored and naughty!  :)

Our pretty girl.

Cora - 5 Year Stats

Well this morning was Cora's 5 year well check.  And it was noted (and has been noted for months), that Cora didn't want to turn 5 because she would have to have shots.  Oh boy.

So I'm not going to lie - knowing I had to take her this morning on my own, I was nervous.  I didn't know what to expect, and didn't know what "Cora" I (or the doctor) was going to get!

In a nutshell, she actually did really well.  She didn't talk much, which whatever - but she listened, she 'kinda' answered questions... and didn't throw a complete fit!!!

She did have to have shots - 2, but then I made them do a flu shot as well.  And I think that was the kicker to our ending.  The first two shots she did amazing - she watched, and seemed perfectly fine... then the nurse did the flu shot in the other leg (which is a sharper needle, I could tell), and Cora bawled after that.  "That one hurt Mommy!!!"  Oh sis.  She cried hard... and for a long time.  and continued to cry when I dropped her off at school.  I felt awful.

Official stats:
44 lbs. 2 oz. (76%)
3' 8 " (88%)

She grew 6 pounds and 4 inches over the past year, which the doctor loved, and so do I.  Dr.  Beebe says she looks good... and thinks we made the right decision on not sending her to Kindergarten.  We visited a little, then it was over.

Cora did well... super proud of that very strong willed girl.  I just know her feelers were hurt, and I feel bad!  Tonight we will snuggle, if she'll let me.

Weekend (& a birthday party!)

Friday:
Ryan finally got home from being gone all week...  we stayed in, grilled out, and just played outside.  The neighbor kids and our kids have been playing super awesome lately, and Friday night was no different.  They were up late, but they were having a blast.

Saturday:
We hung out in the morning - well, I didn't -- cleaned, laundry, prepped to have 4 little girls over for Cora's friend party.  She'd asked to have friends over for her birthday, and we got it planned... Cora was very specific with the names on her 'list' - only 4 of them.  Which works for me!  ha.

Elaina, Marissa, MaKayla and Olivia.  Great group of little girls.  And to top if off, Olivia is 8, so she was a ton of help to me, and the girls.   Fun.

Saturday afternoon after the girls left, Cora took a rest...  and we just vegged around the rest of the day.  I did an errand that included going to the mall, which I hate!!!  That place is just so damn busy... people everywhere!  ha.  Could it be that I have some major social anxiety lately!??!  YEP.  Not that I even had to talk to anyone, I just feel so uncomfortable there.  Weird.
Anyway, Kayson had Carter over later in the afternoon too...  and Saturday night we stayed in too...  made supper, and played outside again.  What a great little day for our kids.  Man, they played hard all day.

Sunday:
Church, then just hung out all day.  Kind of a gloomy day, but we played outside a little...  played dolls, played a few games...  that's about it.

Nice weekend...  but again, super bummed it's Sunday.  YUK.

Friday night - Egged-On game!

Saturday - birthday party day!

Long weekend (Monday & Tuesday)

BEHIND POST...  but needed to post it.  Oops.
Update on Kayson -
Sunday morning he seemed pretty good...  but then before we were heading to church, he complained of his tummy hurting again.  The doc had told Ryan to try Tums or even Zantac... so we gave him a Zantac (hoping that would help)... and it seemed to.

By the time church was over, and we were home - he seemed good.  He actually started flag football practice, so Ryan and him did that - and again, all good.

Ryan had to leave for SD around 1:30 Sunday (which breaks my heart...  I bawled like a baby).  I just hate having him gone... and especially over 7 hours away.  Anyway, Cora took a rest - and Kayson layed down too, but didn't sleep.  He just relaxed, and was good.  Fast forward - Sunday night he was perfectly fine - like talking back, fighting with Cora...  back to 100% he said.  Which I feel good about.  Finally.

Monday - We took Cora to daycare (she took treats to school for her birthday, and she was excited! and she started a new room!)  K and I hung out and did some shopping and that's about it.  We kept pretty 'low' all day...  I just wanted to make sure that he was ok.  He did eat for me and got pretty feisty during the day... so I knew he was better.

Monday late afternoon we went to Open House for school!

Tuesday - Cora was at daycare for the morning.  K and I did an errand (and still seemed good).  Then they had dentist appointments - K's 6 month check, and Cora's check too (mainly look at that cavity).  They both did AMAZING.  I was so thrilled.  Kayson is just getting more comfortable, which is nice.  And Cora really didn't hesitate at all.  I'm sure it helped with brother there, but man, I was impressed.

We then got Kayson's hair buzzed... we hit up a park (where they were super annoying!), and then just hung out at home.

Overall, it was a nice long weekend staying at home...  I definitely didn't miss work, but I also know I can't be a stay at home mom.  I just don't have it in me.  I don't have the patience.  :)

Kayson - First Day of 3rd Grade!

We are off to 3rd grade already.  I mean, seriously!?!?

We sure do wish Daddy was here...  but we are pretty much used to it at this point.  #sadface

Kayson said it was "EASY PEASY".  ha I giggled and said - "well, it was the first day."   He basically said it was a day of rules and expectations, which is obviously important.

Kayson - 3rd Grade Open House

Monday afternoon we met Kayson's 3rd grade teacher at Maple Grove - Mrs. Flack.  She seems very nice, however, I found it weird that she had all the blinds closed, and weird lights on (like different colorful lights).  Hmmm...  My guess is that she may just want the feeling of 'calm' in a classroom... cuz it definitely was.  I'll be curious to hear from Kayson if she has it like that during the day...

Anyway, we had a nice visit with her, Kayson got his school supplies put away, and we just roamed the room a little.  One thing in Mrs. Flack's room - the kids don't have assigned desks.  So their supplies are in 'bins' and there are different 'stations' for desks - teacher calls it "flexible seating".  So each section of desks is about 4 or 5 desks - but each is a different seat.  So - there are workout balls in one section, there are standing desks (no chairs), there are cushions in one section... and so on.  I do find this very interesting and am very anxious to hear how it goes.

I can't believe K is in 3rd grade already... just unbelievable.

Cora's 5th Birthday & Party

Happy 5th birthday to our little girl.  And she's not really little anymore.  She looks big.  She IS big.  And she's just not a baby anymore.

Yesterday morning we had her grandparents over for lunch and her celebration.  This year, unfortunately, no one else could really make it...  it's just a busy time of year, I understand.  But I think maybe next year we'll do birthday party a week earlier??  Maybe.  Anyway, Cora slept in really well... and we got ready for the party.

While Kayson rested and relaxed in his room...  Papa Paul, Papa Mike, Grandma JeanAnn and Grandma Janis came for the 'party'.  It was so nice having them here...  nice and quiet too!  ha.  We just had a nice day visiting and laughing at Cora's imagination!  It was truly all about that little girl!

Cora got everything she ever wanted - a Truly Me American Girl doll!!   (and she's SOOOOO pretty!)  haha.  Plus TONS of doll clothes, and Elena of Avalor stuff.  She got it all.  :)  It was a super good day for Cora.

and now today (at 10:07 am) she's technically 5.  It's crazy... we looked through all her photo books, and just seeing her as a baby and growing every year - it's so sweet.  She was SUCH a good baby for us!  And now she's fiesty!  :)

Basic info:
  • Clothes - We've jumped up.  The girl has a long torso!  She's wearing big girl 6 tops, big girl 5 dresses (she might need 6 tho!), still a fairly tiny waist/rump, so big girl Xsmalls for bottoms.  She's growing... and loves clothes.  She's gone through a stage of loving only dresses, then we are ok with capris or shorts, but then back to dresses.  She's definately got an opinion when it comes to what she wears!  (which hasn't changed from her being 4!)
  • Shoes - mostly 9 or 10, depending on brand.
  • Diapers - size 6 (bedtime).  No pull-ups at rests, only diapers at bedtime.  We really need to work on that, but I also really don't have the motivation!  ha.  We'll think about doing the alarm system soon... but we'll see!
  • Loves the iPad now.  She's knows how to run that thing!!!  She watches little girls play with baby dolls!!!  and she then does the same with her own babies!  Shows she loves are --- Elena of Avalor, still Full House, Paw Patrol, Descendents. Movies she loves are --- Moana, Dolphin Tale 1 & 2, Hotel for Dogs, and many more!
  • She still has trouble listening to me... but does well with Daddy.  Her and I butt-heads quite often...  she pretty much rules me, which I know is not good...
  • She likes to sing still - She sings in the car a lot, and puts in requests all the time.  Favorites songs get switched out about every 2 weeks.  :)
  • She's still attached to her 'softie' and blanket - needs them when she's tired/bedtime.
  • Eating is still a rollercoaster.  Still will not touch vegetables.  We've figured out she eats good for about 6 days, then we have 6 days of not eating much.
  • Bed/Sleeping - Bedtime is better now...  still 8:30, and she does pretty well falling asleep.  Every once in awhile I'll still hear her talking and giggling to herself, but typically she falls asleep pretty quickly.  Waking up times are still very inconsistent.  Most weekdays we can't get her out of bed (at 6:45)... but on the weekends she'll wake at 6:45 just fine!  ha.  Once in awhile she'll still til about 8:00 on weekends, which is nice!

Long weekend (Thurs, Friday, Saturday)/Kayson icky

Well, I've been off work since Thursday... and I don't go back til Wednesday!!  Seems like forever, but I tell you what - I love it.  Even if things are stressful at home and Ryan's going to be gone, etc.

Anyway, Thursday the kids and I made a day trip to Clarion.  We haven't been in awhile, and Hope was going to be going back to college...and we didn't have anything to really do here, so we headed up there.  We had a really good day...  but every once in awhile Kayson would complain that his tummy hurt.  He seemed fine really... but just acted weird a little.

We spent most of the time with my nieces and nephew - Trish and Jill had to work obviously, but it was fun to just spend time with the 'kids'.  Cora played awesome with dolls and polly-pockets at Jill's.  We just hung out... laughing and just having a nice time.  We had lunch - Dad came with us too...  then in the afternoon, we went to the park and played hard...  ran around the track too!  We were going to do the pool, but the weather was super cloudy and chilly, until about 4:00, then it got warm.  So instead we went and visited 10 5-week old puppies!  Oh man - were they the cutest damn things!

We ended up staying through supper too...  so we got to see everyone then too.  But again, Kayson complained of his tummy hurting, and Cora didn't eat one bite.  I think I was done for the day... and the kids too!  We headed back to DSM around 7ish. Overall, good day.

Friday, Cora went to daycare... and K and I hung out.  He had an eye appointment that morning (and again, said his tummy was hurting).  We got through that...  then he seemed ok.  So Ryan took him out to the State Fair.  Probably not the best decision, but I know Ryan wanted to go... and they did last year too... and K acted like he wanted to go... so I get it.  Kayson didn't feel well out there either.  Just a huge bummer.  Feed bad.

Friday night Cora and I went to Presley's 6th birthday party - just at the house...  bounce house, pizza and cake.  Cora had a nice time.

And Saturday we celebrated Cora's birthday (see other post!!!)  Again, Kayson really complained of his tummy... so Ryan took him to urgent care.  Virus.  God damn viruses.   He came home and seemed a little 'perkier', he rested a little...  and did eat a little bit, which was good.  Then he slept for nearly 2.5 hours...  and again, woke up and acted 'ok'.  Guess we just need to take it easy... and see what happens.

More to come later...

Kayson - a stay with Grandma & Papa #3

Each August before school starts, the summer program shuts down.  So Kayson gets to spend some special time with Ryan's parents...  and like last year, Tate was able to be with them for a couple days as well.

Ryan took K Sunday afternoon...  and the fun began.

Monday JeanAnn, Tate and Kayson went golfing.  Oh hilarious in my opinion.  I'm glad Grandma does this with them - I know Tate thinks it's the best thing ever, since he's such a sports nut!  Kayson said this was the best part of his days in Creston!

In addition to golfing - Kayson said they went to WalMart, they got new shoes at Magic's place, and played outside a ton.  I'd say a busy day for the boys!

Tuesday Papa was home for the morning... so the boys went fishing at Grandma's pond, which I love.  They played all day apparently... and when we talked to Kayson Tuesday night, he looked wiped out!  Tate did have to go home Tuesday night... so then Wednesday was just hanging out with Grandma which included a little school shopping and a movie here in DSM!

What a lucky (and tired) little boy!  :)
I'm glad to have him home...  I missed him, but super glad and thankful he gets to have this time with Ryan's parents.  It's so important to me (more than ever in our lives right now).

Kayson & Cora - Professional Pics

I love having my kids' pictures taken.  Literally - to see the results, so clear, so perfect... I love it.

We got cousin pics taken a couple weeks ago - we got those back, and they were great!!!  And then this afternoon we had the kids' pictures taken in Ames - basically for Cora turning 5.  And again - love LOVE them.  Goodness.
