Cora - Sick update

Well... it's been a long ass week, and it's only Wednesday.
So... update on Cora.

Monday - stayed home with Ryan.  No fever all day, acted fine.
Monday night acted fine - slept great...  woke and was happy.  Ate breakfast, no fever...

Tuesday - she went to school.  Apparently had a great day. She said she felt good, no fever still... and even the teacher told me she had a good day.

Tuesday night - around 5:00, Cora was talking with me, then all of the sudden - she was pale, and said she didn't feel well.  She threw up a little... mostly flem.  She was ghostly white, and just said she didn't feel good.

We drove to urgent care (as at that point, I had no idea what was going on...).  Unfortunately, the wait there was over an hour and a half...  we did sit for awhile.  She perked up, said she felt fine and wanted to go home.  She cried and just was all upset.  I talked with my sister through all of this --- she said it's got to be a virus, and that there's no reason to wait that long at urgent care - GO HOME.  So... I was convinced... we went home.

Cora honestly seemed fine - she was tired, but she was hungry.  She ate some crackers.  She perked up.  Still no fever.  We did bath, and just took it easy... then she ate some bland cereal.  She slept awesome.

Wednesday - woke with no fever, and seemed good.  She started to get dressed, then again - turned all pale, and said she didn't feel good.  She dry-heaved a little...  and just was so out of it.  Pale, lethargic.

So... home we stayed.

Within 40 minutes of all of that... she seemed good.  Had color, wanted to go to school...  cried cuz she wanted to go to school!!!  What a morning!

We saw the doctor this morning... and the results are:
Viral.  (which we figured), but I guess having an answer helps.
Dr. Beebe thinks its a virus called Adenovirus.
We wait it out... as of now (Wednesday afternoon), she's good.

Wednesday night however, we took a huge turn for the worse.  Super high fever, more dry heaving and really lethargic.  I got worried.  Poor kid.  We just had a rough evening... however, she slept like a champ.  More to come...

I hate viruses!
Few pics of her over the past couple days...
breaks my heart.

then she's grinning under there.  ha.

Weekend/Cora - Fever

Friday:
Kids didn't have school - Teacher Service day.  They went to BTB - went to a movie, which was fun for them.  I picked them up at normal time... home we went.

Friday night - Kayson had baseball practice, then afterwards we met up with Hummel's for supper.  Figured the boys were out and would need to be fed - so we met up.  It was late - the girls were 'over it', but overall it was fine.  Home we went.

Saturday:
Cora had a dance clinic to attend - the Waukee Dance Team held a winter clinic.  3 hours!  I dropped her off... and went home and did a ton of stuff around the house.  Got groceries too.  It was a nice morning... and day - we just kept busy and I was productive.

We grabbed lunch after Cora's parent-teacher conference. Then went to Scheel's - both Kayson and I needed tennis shoes!  Desperately!  Well - Kayson much  more than me, he literally had a hole in the front of his!  ha.  We messed around at Scheel's for awhile, then back home.  Our afternoon was good... did more cleaning and laundry.

Sunday:
No church again.  3 Sunday's in a row - due to terrible weather.  Most of the state had blizzard weather... awful!!!  So we fiddled around at home all day...  it kind of got to be a long day as I was so productive on Saturday!!  We did go through some of Ryan's clothes, which was good...  getting rid of some old suits, ties and dress shirts.  It always feels good to clean that stuff up!!

By Sunday afternoon we were bored!  Cora was acting a little different... really mellow - yawning a lot.  Late afternoon I checked her temp - low grade temp of about 99.8.  I put more oils on, and did give her some Tylenol.  Within 30 minutes she was bouncing off the walls.  Obviously the meds kicked in.  ha.  But she soon was back to being quiet... and somber.  Poor kid...  must have a virus.  She went to bed early - and slept all night long...  fever still lingered at about 99.5 Monday morning... so she stayed home with Ryan.

I just hope it's not the start of Influenza B. (2 years ago she had it) She has no symptoms except the fever (as of now)...  We'll see how tonight goes, and then if it continues - we'll go to the doc to ensure it's not an ear infection or strep, or influenza.  I pray this is short lived!!!!!   So bummed.
She painted Sunday...  before the temp showed it's face.
We got our fireplace fixed - kids sat in front of it for a bit!

Cora Kindergarten Spring Conference

Cora had her spring conference this morning...  we had this early due to her teacher is going to be having a baby in the next few weeks!  Very exciting.

We have been having some issues with Cora's behavior at school...  nothing too serious, but enough that we have been getting emails from the teacher and have had to have some conversations with Cora.  It's unfortunate... and the majority of the conference was regarding her behavior.  Academically she's doing amazing...  beyond where she 'needs' to be in Kindergarten.  She's reading at 1st Grade level, as well as writing/sight words are at 1st Grade.  Her math is going super well too - a big strength is what the teacher called her math.

So back to the behavior - Cora is a super strong leader (which we are proud of, and will probably benefit her when she gets older), but in the classroom it's getting in the way.  The teacher said several times - "let's take those good powers and apply them positively, not negatively." (in so many words)  Cora needs reminded often to keep on task... as she either distracts others, or others easily distract her.  And she needs to chose the 'right time' to socialize... and make kind choices.  This is the big one - she has a 'friend' in her class whom may or may not have a love/hate relationship with.  They feed off each other - they both have strong personalities - they both are bossy... and cute.  ha.  These two have had some isolated problems lately...

Basically - we are stuck in a hard place...  Cora's smart, and knows better, but she just needs to apply herself and be kind to the people around her.  The teacher is going to continue to be a little more 'strict' with her in hopes to nip this. She also will be attempting to keep Cora and the other little girl separated as much as possible.  I worry about the substitute coming in... I hope Cora adjusts ok and doesn't push her buttons.

I've prayed about this so much lately...  so I just hope that Cora learns that we are always respectful, we are always kind and we keep our hands to ourselves.

Anyway, overall - Cora's doing well in school, which we are obviously proud of.

Week & Weekend

It has been a long week/weekend.
I was off nearly all week - some tummy issues that put me down and out for a couple days, and continued into the weekend.  Not a virus, not the flu...  other crap.  I saw the doctor Friday morning to get some answers as I was completely irritated by Thursday.  Got answers, and we move on.  I feel a little better, but I can't say I'm 100%.  We'll keep trucking along tho... that's what Mom's do, right?

So our week - busy during the week it seemed.  We had lots of prepping to do for Kayson's project.  Cora kept us busy.  It was just nonstop it seemed, especially since I wasn't feeling all that awesome.

Friday:
I worked from home after going to the doc...  got some stuff done, which was good.  I had been out of the office off and on all week, just not giving it my all for work that's for sure.  Anyway, Friday afternoon I was off to help be a 'Homeroom Mom' for Kayson's Valentine's Day party. Another mom and I were asked to step in...  and I'm going to say I won't be doing that again.  OH MY GOODNESS.  4th graders are a lot of work - they are loud - they are obnoxious - they are rude - um...  wow.  I learned a lot in that short 45 minutes and the main thing I learned (but I already pretty much knew) - I could never be a teacher.  Wow!!  K and I headed out - picked up Cora from her class... and we were off!

Friday night Kayson had baseball...  Cora and I hung out at home.  Blair and Tate were in town!  They came over to DSM to attend the Iowa High School State wrestling tournament for the day.  They love stuff like that... they came to our place around 6:30... and hung out with us, and stayed with us.  It was a good little visit.

Saturday:
Kids slept good!  The boys got up about 7:30ish (which was later than I had thought!)  And Cora didn't wake til after 8:30!!  We just hung out for awhile... then Mike and JeanAnn came up to see them.  We went out for lunch, and Blair/Tate were back on the road to head home.

Cora and I did an errand then with Ashley and Jill - as they were in town for a little bit.  Ashley is addicted to make-up, so we went to Ulta with them.  Cora was in heaven!  So funny... and scary at the same time.  Again, nice little visit with them.

Saturday night we didn't do much.  I grabbed some groceries as there was snow in the forecast...  we ate in, and just hung out.

Sunday:
A whopping 7" of snow dropped on us overnight!  Ryan went out and scooped... and in the meantime, church was cancelled.  Ryan was disappointed, as we cancelled last week too...  but there was a lot of snow, most roads hadn't been scooped yet...  it was the right decision.

So we made the best of yet another snow day around here!  Our morning was lazy...  really lazy.  But then the snow kind of stopped...  we got out and shoveled again, the kids played... we ate lunch, then we decided to go sledding.  We tried a hill near by called County Club.  And it was great.  The kids had a blast - and were exhausted with all the walking back up the hill!!  It was a good hour or so!

Back home... watched a movie... and just hung out.  It was a nice day.  The snow finally stopped, but we have a ton.  And I hear we are supposed to get more.
Cora got her first Valentine's rose from her Daddy!
Flowers and cards.  Good day.

Weekend

Oh the weekend is over already...  yuk.  and more snow and cold are on the way!!  double yuk!
Friday:
K had baseball.  Cora and I hung out.  We made muffins and bread... and just fiddled around.  Nothing too exciting!

Saturday:
Kids were both up early.  And they seemed so tired Friday night, I was for sure they would sleep past 7.  Nope.  I layed around for awhile too...  Ryan went out to church.  And the kids and I did an errand, and they complained the whole time.  Guess that's why I don't take them anywhere.  Anyway, Kayson is working on a big project for school - called the "Hall of Fame", he is researching Thomas Jefferson.  He's doing a pretty good job, from what we can tell...  and one of the last things is putting together a big poster board.  I picked up a board... and he's been working on that a little.  He's definitely not as interested as I'd like him to be...  but we pushed through and got a good chunk of it done.

Saturday afternoon we just hung out...  really not much.  Cora did some heart art, which is fun.  She loves stuff like that...   Then Kayson went over to a friends house, Carter's.  Their plan was to go to the UNI/Drake basketball game, but in the end it didn't work out - the Mom that took them said she drove around for over 40 minutes trying to find a parking spot... and then it was getting too late...  bummer.  They ended up just hanging out at their house - Fortnite and games.  I'm guessing K was in heaven...  late night and early Sunday morning for him.

Saturday night Hope and Logan were bored, so they came over and were bored with us.  :)  Of course Cora kept them entertained (or maybe annoyed them), she's been a big chore lately!  But we grabbed supper out, and then just hung out a little.  It was nice to see them.

Sunday:
We headed out to church - picked Kayson up... and then were informed we were cancelling church due to the weather/roads/parking lot not being plowed.  Bummer.  So back home we went...  it was weird, can't remember when we've had a Sunday morning at home!  We just hung out... and it was nice.  Ryan did some work at the church, so he wasn't even home...  so no different for him!

The kids played outside in the snow for a bit.  The weather was decent, not too windy, so it was good for them to get out!

K had hitting practice... which I heard they hit A LOT.  I think he was tired, but it's good for him.  I hope he wants to get better and have fun!

Then a completely random Sunday night activity - we went out for supper.  We hardly ever do that... but we met up with old friends and their boys...  had a good hour out, and then back home.

Cora has been a challenge lately - more than normal it seems.  She was in bed at 7:30, and asleep within minutes.  SO... hopeful that helps with some of her challenges.  :)  K was asleep about 8:30, so he needed some extra sleep too.

Testing them out!

so fancy for church, then it was cancelled!  Will wear it next week!

Weekend

Friday:
Well... we stayed in...  watched Kayson like a hawk, as well as Cora... and us.  Kayson seemed good by Friday evening, ate a little pizza, and then had popcorn before bed.  He was a little owly with Cora, so I knew he was feeling better.

Saturday:
We slept in a little...  not as much as I wanted the kids to, but it was ok.  I worried about the kids of course...  but said a couple prayers, and just had to keep moving on.  We got packed up and headed out the door about 9:15 to Sioux City.  We were going to celebrate Rhett's birthday - he'll be 2 this week!  He's a funny little boy... so sweet, and cute little personality!

We arrived a little before lunch... had lunch and then the kids just played all day long.  The weather was great over there... cloudy, but nice.  So we went for a walk later and played at a near-by rock climbing park.  It was good to get out of the house for a little bit.  Then more playing... and bed at a decent time for the kiddos.

Sunday:
Up early.  Oh man.
We lounged around for a bit... then the kids begged and begged (they begged Saturday too) to go to the hotel where Ryan's parents stayed, so they could swim.  We gave in.  They had a good time...  about 45 minutes or so of swimming and they were done.  Funny how it goes so quickly.   Anyway, back to the house to get cleaned up... then just more playing.

We got on the road shortly after lunch...  fairly quiet ride home.
We all slept so good in our beds Sunday night... and no one wanted to get up for the day!!!

I got some cute pictures over the couple days...
