Friday & Saturday

There is one word to sum up our Friday & Saturday - BUSY, but fun.

Friday evening we went for dinner with our close friends, Colleen & Travis, then we met up with some other friends at the Blue Moon Piano Bar (highly recommended) - we had a great time. We met up with our friends, Jamie & Travis to celebrate their wedding. They were married last summer, but this weekend was their 'celebration' time! Friday was 'fun night', Saturday would be their wedding reception. Here are some photos from that night:

Saturday morning I had a photo shoot - check out this cutie patootie!

And Saturday night was the wedding reception - it was a BBQ - perfect weather and just nice company. Kayson really enjoyed being outside - he just checked everything out, and also got to be held by some of my volleyball friends. Jamie & Travis have a 7 month old, Braley, we got a snap shot of the proud Daddy's and then Braley & Kayson checking each other out. It's pretty cute!

So that was part of our weekend! Tomorrow we have family coming... busy busy!

Random Thoughts

Congratulations to our good friends, Angi & Corey - on the birth of their new son, Collin James. We have been anxiously waiting for Baby McKie to arrive - I believe he arrived about a week late!! Poor Angi! We can't wait to hear more about him and meet him.

Kayson's cold still hangs on - gosh I hope he sleeps through the night tonight.

I'm ready to see some sunshine - maybe tomorrow? Ed Wilson says by Friday, it'll be a great day... and Saturday too.

Looked at the June calendar for us - how is it that every single weekend is full with something? Busy busy. Summers are great - but my goodness, we are busy!

I am jealous of Blair & Martina - they go on their honeymoon starting tomorrow night!

And once again - I'm tired. I actually might take a bubble bath tonight - haven't done that in about a week.

Long weekend

We had a good, long, Memorial Day weekend. Kayson and I missed Daddy Friday night (since he was in Creston already). Saturday morning I was surprised with Kayson projectile vomitting while I was feeding him... he got to coughing so hard (b/c of his cold & snotty nose - again), he threw up. What a horrible feeling. He's had a cold for about a week now... So I took him into a walkin clinic just to make sure he didn't have any 'junk' in his lungs. (That's what I get nervous about with colds). The doctor we saw was great - he said Kayson is just fighting a cold and we need to wait it out. Being 5 months old they can't do much!! So - we'll continue to suck the crap out of his nose, and do the breathing treatments... that should kick it soon.

From there - we headed to my good friends' son's graduation open house... was nice to see her and visit for a little while. And then from there - we finally headed to Creston. It was good to be there and hang out for the weekend... we had a nice time. The weather was perfect!! Sunday we hung out at Grandma & Grandpa's farm - another perfect weather day! Ryan, his Dad, and Aunt & Uncle did some landscaping at the farm... check the picture out. They did a great job!

And today (Monday), Ryan, Kayson & I did some shopping - we both needed summer clothes desperately... it was nice to get out and do whatever. Kayson & Ryan are napping... and I'm doing what I normally do - be non stop! It was a great weekend... too bad it has to end!

5 Months

Kayson is 5 months old today. One word to sum it all up - AMAZING.

Our 5 month old:

  • Can fall asleep on his own for bed (wonderful!)
  • Can almost hold his own bottle
  • Is too stubborn to roll over... but...
  • Is really working on sitting up all by himself!
  • Can tell story after story to us!
  • Is on a routine - food wise & nap wise!
  • Weighs 18 lbs!

Here's a picture of him sitting up.

Past week... or so.

Well, it's been about a week since I posted something... no real excuse, except the fact that the days just fly by!!! Before I know it, it's 8:15 (bedtime for Kayson), then following that - I try to get some things done around the house - or lately, been watching all of my season finales that I've DVRd. Wowza - they are addicting!! Desperate Housewives, American Idol, Grey's Anatomy, One Tree Hill - are MY shows! I'm sad that they are off for the summer - now what will I watch!??! I suppose that will get all of us outside more, which will be nice!

Anywho - things have been good here. Ryan is on vacation this week - needed to take some of his personal time. He's done some things around the house, and yesterday he helped scrap his Great-Grandmothers shed (prepping it for a fresh coat of paint this weekend). Good deed that he did - and he even got some sun on his farmers tan! :)

Kayson is great - however, over the past week or so, he's been deciding to wake up in the middle of the night... struggling to fall back to sleep. I've said this before - getting up in the middle of the night is for the BIRDS! Not for me, not for Ryan! ha. I'm wondering if he is going through a growth spurt, or cutting teeth, or is just plain hungry?? We've bumped his feedings to about every 4 hours, now that we are doing cereal, so I sometimes wonder if he's just getting use to not having that extra 6 or 7 oz of milk? I don't know!! We'll see what happens tonight - some nights we don't hear a peep, then next night he's up... it's just off and on. Either way - he's still wonderful... growing and just overall a happy baby. We still haven't figured out how to truly roll over (without our help of flipping that chubby leg over!)... he'd much rather just sit up. He really has started working on that - last night, we were in the sit position for at least 10 seconds! Big boy! I'll keep you posted on all of his 'next steps'.

How cute is he?!?!

Here's a few pictures from today. Our cutie pie.

Kayson playing!

So Handsome!

Friends

This afternoon and evening Ryan and I spent some time with some old friends and newer friends. Ryan's close friend, Clay, & his great wife, Holly (and their petite adorable daughter, Gillian) came to town so we could get together... we also got to see some of their close friends, Charles & Nicole (and their fun 3 yr old daughter, Kalyn). Clay & Holly - old friends, Charles & Nicole - "newer" friends. Ryan has known Charles for years through Clay, and I've known Nicole through work - she's a wellness instructor at Principal and I've had the wonderful opportunity to know her through the pain of working out! Well, it was great seeing them tonight - we had a great time - catching up, telling kid stories, getting to know the Mills a little better (for me) and just having a nice time. Blair & Martina stayed with Kayson for a couple hours - they have been dying to babysit him, so this was the perfect chance.

Just a side note - I say that Gillian is a petite little thing... just to give you an idea of how petite: Gillian is 9 months old and weighs about 15 or 16 pounds. My Kayson - my tubbo - (who is 4 1/2 months old) weighs about 17 pounds. Hmmm... TUBBO! hah. We joked about this all night... but I do think that boys just grow bigger/faster/thicker than little girls! Too funny.

It was a great evening... thanks to Blair & Martina and thanks to the Mills for hosting!

Today

Today has been an eventful day -- another round of layoffs here at Principal. My goodness - it seems like it's every week now. I think to myself everytime this happens -"I'm safe", but you just never know... and it's scary. This hit home to another friend of mine today (just like it did back in December). When its so closely to home, it's really hard. I hope the people that were effected today stay positive and are able to find something soon.

Despite the sad news at work -- today was a great day for a walk... and that's exactly what I did. My great friend, Colleen, and her adorable daughter came over and we (Kayson & I) went for a walk with them. It was nice - we just strolled along and chitchatted. Perfect.

Now it's already 8:00 at night... where does the evening go!??! Off to do laundry and all the other things that need to be done!

Wonderful Sunday

I have so much to be thankful for and so much to tell about today... what a wonderful Sunday.

Kayson was baptised today in the United Presbyterian Church of Clarion - where I grew up and was baptised. It has meant a lot to me to have Kayson baptised, and I'm so thankful that we did it this way. Kayson slept through most of the church service, then it was our time to go up front... I held him (and boy he got heavy!), but slept through the "We do's" and the blessings, then Pastor Bill took him to bless him with the holy water - and he woke up. (No fussin'!) It was awesome - it was like he knew exactly what we going on then... very cool! Bill did a wonderful job - amazing. Kayson is truly a blessing and God is here to protect him and guide him.

Following the church service, we all went out to my parent's farm for lunch. A house full of about 20 people and we had a great time. We were lucky enough to have Ryan's parents and brother, Blair & Martina join us as well.

Here's a pic from the baptism.

And to top that awesome event - it was my first Mother's Day. It did kind of get lost in the shuffle of things today, but when we finally got home - Ryan and I stopped for a moment and hugged and that's all I needed. He wished me "Happy Mother's Day" and gave me a certificate to pamper myself at the Spa at West Glen. (Great spot for massages!) Anyway - I had a perfect day and am so glad I'm a mom now!

10 Thoughts Today

1. It's Friday - thank goodness!
2. So happy for Blair & Martina - they are officially home owners! No more throwing their money away to an apartment complex!
3. Get to have 'tea' with my son at daycare this afternoon! I don't drink tea!
4. Am tired - but still kickin' (somehow!)
5. Miss my best friends - feel like I haven't seen Lacey or Colleen in months. (Hasn't been that long, but seems like it!)
6. Anxious about Kayson's baptism this weekend.
7. Wish Ryan & I had more room in our house (wish there was another way to organize)... Kayson's stuff fills it up!
8. Tried working out this week - Monday & Thursday I hit the eliptical, today I'll go for a long walk. It felt good, now just need to do it more often!
9. Lovin' Kayson's giggles - truely makes everything else disappear. Amazing.
10. Need a date night with my husband...

Snotty, Runny nose

Not me, not Ryan (well - kind of Ryan - his allergies have been in an uproar), but Kayson -- the little guy definitely has a cold. I posted earlier this week that he was stuffed up and a little raspy - definitely stuffed up. We are sucking out his nose every 30 minutes it seems... and when he has a good sneeze, wowza - we get a lot of junk out of his little nose. (I know, gross - but also good to sneeze all of that stuff out!) He also started this coughing thing - reminds me of his cough when he was 10 weeks old and had early signs of broncholitus... poor thing. So we've been doing the nebulizer treatments a couple times a day, and hopefully that'll kick it by this weekend. Also with the snotty nose - I feel like I'm washing his face and hands constantly... hopefully that'll help as well!

Speaking of the weekend - couple big things going on:
  • Kayson will be baptised this coming Sunday
  • my first Mother's Day!

I'll post more on that later!

Interesting evening...

I picked up Kayson from daycare being told that he was fussy after his short nap this afternoon - he was warm, but his toes and fingers were cold. When we got home, I checked his temp - normal, he was hungry, so we ate cereal (did well again!) and a bottle... ate everything like a champ! We talked, played, then became pretty fussy again. He's pretty stuffed up and raspy, so I'm chalking this all up to him having a little cold... good thing we own that nebulizer we got when he was 10 weeks old - we pulled that out, did a breathing treatment, fed him, and he was asleep by 8:30. Hmm... think we can do 10 hours again!?

I can say having him in bed around 8:30 is sometimes nice... Ryan and I are able to sit and watch an entire episode of CSI Miami! (Oh the little things!) and I'm able to write on the blog, upload more pictures, and just do some random things... but always in the back of my mind - I think to myself, I should go to bed now, in case Kayson is up at 4:00!

I call this an interesting evening, b/c we rarely have a fussy baby... sometimes, I'm just not quite sure what to do!!

Next Step

We had a great weekend... great time with just the three of us and got a lot accomplished - house stuff, Kayson stuff, car stuff, we were productive - and the weather was awesome!! The most fun thing (and important thing) we got done was Kayson's first cereal feeding. What a funny experience. We didn't really know what to expect or what to do at first, but he did great (and I think we did okay too!) For 'sucking' for 4 months from a bottle - he did continue to suck at the spoon, but by day 2 of the cereal feeding, I think he was getting the hang of it. It's going to take some time, but he'll figure it out - he's a genius, don't you know?!?! ha. We had a messy face - take a look.

We also experienced a lot of 'grabbing' at things... Both Ryan and I will 'talk' with Kayson and he just takes his hands and grabs at our faces, it's priceless... so sweet.

10 hours!

So... over the past couple evenings, Ryan & I have noticed that Kayson is getting super-duper tired and crabby around 8:00 pm. Normally, we just soothe him a little and he takes a snooze for about 30 minutes and he's refreshed, then his bedtime bottle comes around 9:00 and he's easily asleep for the night by 9:30 pm. Well - the other night, he had a screaming/crying fit around 8:00 pm again... so last night we tested it out. He started to get fussy (and we were a little off schedule with our bottle times), but we decided that we would put him down then...

Bottle - 8:15 pm
Swaddled - 8:25 pm
Asleep - 8:35 pm

I was nervous... Ryan asked me "So - do you think he'll last til 6:30?" I said "I don't think so..."

Well, I was wrong! The little bugger slept 10 hours and was awake around 6:30 this morning - bright eyed and ready to go. What a good boy!! Now - the test is: Will it be the schedule from now on, or will he throw us for another loop? Oh - the adventures of figuring out a child!!
