Waukee Jazz/Show Choir showcase!

The Waukee Jazz and Show Choirs wrapped up their season last night.

There was a showcase literally showing off everything last night - so good!!!

I'm so stinking proud of Kayson for doing this...  it may have been uncomfortable at times for him (learning the dances, etc.), but being with friends, and knowing his love for music and singing - he did it, and I'm proud!!

Kayson - 15 year old well check

Last week, Kayson needed to have a well check - it had been a year, and he needed the documentation for sports.  In addition, he actually hadn't been feeling well.  I knocked it up to a head cold - and it had gotten him down for a couple days...  but then he complained of his right ear hurting.

Diagnosis - ear infection.  Man it's been years since he's had one of those - and he says it hurts!!  We got some meds... and I think it's finally getting better (after 3 full days of meds).  It must have been a doozy.

Kayson also had a sports physical too - we have switched to a 'big boy' doctor - Dr. Nate Fuller.  Nice guy and I think he'll work well for Kayson.

Kayson has unfortunately lost some weight - he was at about 135 a couple months ago.  I think it's probably due to basketball... and he just doesn't eat much.  We need to increase his calories, and get him to lifting.

But overall, good visit, and that's done for a year!

Cora - 5th grade BizTown

Cora and her 5th grade class got to experience BizTown last week.  (Kayson didn't get to participate in this due to Covid that year), so I was super glad to see this 5th grade class go to experience it.

Cora was a physician - she talked to patients, gave them shots and listened to their hearts.  She says she had fun being with her friends.  :)

Indianola Show Choir event

In addition to dance - Kayson and Inferno wrapped up their Show Choir competition season.   (They do have one more performance, but it's not a comp).

Ryan and Mike and JeanAnn were there to cheer K on.  I heard it was amazing, they rocked it and did so well...  and unfortunately, due to a scoring error - Inferno SHOULD have been in the finals, but they were not.  Such a bummer.

Proud of the kids... and taking that with stride.

2024 Revolution Talent dance comp

First dance competition under our belts!
Revolution Talent is one of the comps that we always participate in.  It's a big one, and it's got good, tough competition.
Cora's group danced Saturday afternoon through the evening. Thankfully the comp ran ahead of schedule, so we weren't there til 11pm (just 9:45pm!)

I'm proud of Cora - she doesn't want any help in the dressing room...  I try to stay out of her way, but also get that feeling in my gut "I want her to want my help."  Her dances did alright - not nearly as well as we all had hoped.
Goldie Locks - Elite Gold
Never Dreamed - Elite Gold
Snow Day - Platinum
Wash that Man - Elite Gold
Girls Night Out - Elite Gold

I'm hoping the kids learn from this weekend - and work on cleaning stuff up, and be ready for the next one!
Here are some great pics from the weekend:

9th grade basketball wrap up

The season is officially over... finally.  I say that jokingly, but also - for serious!  Basketball is the longest season ever, and it was an ugly season too!

Definite ups and downs with basketball - we see some positives with Kayson and team, then we see laziness, or lots of errors... and then I think - they are kids.  They are 15 year old kids.  Not every kid is going to be all in 100% all the time. Gotta give them a break sometime.

Regardless, I'm proud of Kayson.  He's not the strongest kid out there, but he tries.  He's coachable.  He enjoys being on a team.  He can do it - he can be a great player - just gotta put in the effort.

A few pics from the last couple games.
