2024 Turn It Up Dance competition

#2 comp is over already. Season is going fast.

Cora and group danced Sunday morning - early.  All 5 dances for Cora were back to back, and the morning went fast!

Goldie Locks - Platinum, 1st overall

Snow Day - Platinum, 2nd overall

Wash that Man - High Gold, 3rd overall

Never Dreamed - High Gold, 4th overall

Girls Night - Platinum, 2nd overall

Pretty good day...  I felt that a few of the dances were 'messy', but that happens.

2024 Spring Break

Spring Break is starting off much better than last year - we had snow last year!

This year... it's been great weather so far!

We had a great couple days at home... Cora and I went to a Iowa/Iowa State gymnastics meet (with Michelle & Cora)... we had a great day at the farm...  I worked some... kids played... Cora got a full day with Aylah and Aunt Tricia...  I took the kids to Putts & Pinns for a couple hours...  and we had lots of down time.  It honestly was a great week.

Invisalign

March 14, 2024 I got Invisalign.  This is something that I've wanted to do for years...  my lower teeth are very crowded/crooked...  and as I've gotten older, they  have really bothered me (not necessarily pain wise, just the look of them).  I had mentioned to Ryan a couple months ago that I was interested in doing it - and here we are.

I've had my first 'tray' for about 5 days - no pain at all, however, the trays are very hard to get out.  I've found that I'm keeping them in way more than the 20 hours required!!  I'm very anxious for this... and to see the results.

This & That (& celebrating Aylah!)

Our weekend was pretty good...  we were pretty busy, which I actually didn't mind.  I find that if we don't have anything to do, I get too bored - and then sleepy.  I'm not taking naps during the day!

Friday night, Kelsey and I went out for dinner, then went to a "Women's Night Out" at Hope Lutheran.  There was a comedian and appetizers, etc... it was a ton of fun!

Saturday - Cora's conferences, then we went to Aylah's 2nd birthday party!  I can't believe she's going to be 2!  It was a perfect day, and we had so much fun celebrating her!!

Saturday afternoon, the rest of the family was lazy, and I went to watch Lacey's little girl play some volleyball.  That was fun... and fun to sit and chat with Lacey and Justin.

Sunday - dance - and groceries for me.  I did some cleaning and laundry...  then Sunday night, Cora and I went to watch her bestie, Maggie, at a gymnastics competition!  Man that was so fun...  we learned a lot, and we are so proud of Maggie!

Kayson 9th grade Winter Conferences

Conferences for Kayson (and HS) are similar to middle school - I just reached out to the teachers over email to see how things were going.

We had some positive feedback, but then also had some concerning feedback.  I feel like Kayson is trying to find himself, and is being very much persuaded by his peers.  I do feel like he's a good kid still, but he's definitely not as innocent as we all think!

Majority of feedback was positive:

Kayson is a real nice kid.  His work however, is not the most thorough.  He needs to show more detail and give more specific examples in his answers.  Kayson has good energy in my class, but there are times when his talkativeness is distracting.  With that being said, he's a good kid - and all of this is normal behavior.

Kayson is off to a good start for this semester.  He has consistently scored DV+, but I definitely know he is capable of earning SC as the semester progresses.

I don't have any concerns with Kayson - he is kind and polite in class and does not cause disruptions.

Kayson has been slipping academically - he is currently at a B-, but he did retake a test, which should bring him closer to an A.  He seems to be kind of off and sassy with comments lately.

So...  a little of everything from some of the teachers.

Cora 5th Grade Winter Conference

We had Cora's last elementary parent-teacher conference this past Saturday.  Wow.  Last one.  It really didn't hit me until it was done.  :(

Cora is doing well - Mrs. Kramer showed a lot of excitement for Cora - for her creativity, her changing over the last few months (growing up in the classroom), working hard, and not getting as frustrated with math as she used to!  That's a win.

Cora went over a few things that they have done lately -

  • Eco system
  • fractions
  • "Habits of an almost 6th grader"
  • BizTown information - including her interview
