Weekend/Last basketball tournament

I know I haven't written much about basketball season...  and going to be honest, it's been rough, ugly and not very much fun for Kayson or us.  Just hasn't been good.

So this weekend was our last tournament - up in Ames.  There were two games Saturday morning (2 loses) and two games Sunday morning/afternoon (2 loses).  Just not fun.  I feel so bad for the team.

I know Kayson tried hard...  and yes, things didn't go well for him, or the team a lot of the time.  He'd have several turnovers, then he'd do great...  he wouldn't shoot, then he would (and he'd be successful!), and sometimes he wouldn't.  It's all normal, for 6th grade - I mean, these kids are not getting paid to play and more than likely will not be in the NBA!!  haha.  But at the time, yes, we want them to be happy and win, and it just wasn't happening this season.

A few pics of the team and friends.

2021 Revolution Talent Competition

Ok, this is all new to me, and I'm unsure if I will always post about the dance competitions, but this past Friday was Cora's first official competition!  I'm still learning so much and feel like I'm going in 'blind', but Friday went well.  I felt fairly comfortable, and loved that everyone was so kind to Cora.

In the end, the Pizza Party dance (Petites group) won a judge's award and also Platinum.  (I think that's good!)  :)  Then High School Musical production (entire CESOD) won the Revolutionary award.  I know that's good!  ha.

It was a very long day - we were there around 4pm, and got home about 9pm.  I'm learning there is so much anticipation, so much waiting around... then you dance for 2 minutes, and then you wait some more!  But it was good... and I'm glad we are doing this.  Cora had fun, and was exhausted too!  :)

Here are some of the pictures we got, including some snaps from the professional site.

Final results -

Pizza Party, 4th place overall

High School Musical, 1st place overall

Kayson 6th Grade Winter/Spring Conferences

This week we had school conferences for Kayson.  Again just over Google Meets, which was nice and quick.

English/Language Arts - Ms. Smith:  Good report, she enjoys having him in class, and he seems to enjoy English.  He has been working on reading the Harry Potter series, which he just finished #4.  I'm happy for him that he's found a book/series that he's interested in.

Science - Ms. Keller: Overall good report, but she did have a complaint about Kayson 'messing around' with some friends lately.  Apparently he has been messing around with some iPad apps (school approved) when he shouldn't be.  We are obviously disappointed, but also know he's a kid.  We had a chat with him, and hopefully it won't be a problem again!

Side note - I asked Kayson who these friends are... and he told me their names, and I don't know them.  Which I'm learning is something I hate about middle school.  Middle school ends up being several elementary schools combining and we just don't know the kids or the parents.  That's hard - especially going from knowing all his friends in elementary.  I just hope and pray he's making the right/good decisions.

Math - Mrs. Eddy: Again good report, he's secure on the math unit they are working on.  He asks questions and is making adjustments to what is needed to get the right answer.  Mrs. Eddy mentioned that he doesn't like to sit still (he stands in class), and it ends up being a distraction to class.  Their class is very social apparently, and Kayson is a part of that.  (Again, had a conversation with him, and he got upset, so he knows he's in the wrong).

Social Studies - Ms. Harvey:  She reported 'good' for Kayson as well, but didn't have a ton to say.  She did say that he can get silly in class, but he has corrected himself over the past weeks.

I'm finding these reports are frustrating.  But as I say that, I know he's a kid, I know he's 12 - he's changing, I get it.  I just want him to realize that school (during class) is not the time to be a distraction or 'get attention'.  He's there to learn.  I know he knows this, but if it continues, there will be some consequences.

Weekend

No basketball this weekend, which was kind of nice for Saturday.  I spent the entire day doing laundry and did a little shopping.  That evening we went to Lifetime to get the kids off their devices - played some basketball and the kiddos swam a little.  (then slept amazing!!)

Sunday - Cora had dance for an hour...  and K had baseball.  That was it.  I was bored, but oh well!!

Weekend/Day Off

Another weekend has passed... and it was BRUTALLY cold.  Like breaking records cold.  YUK.

Friday we stayed in... bored as ever.  :)

Saturday ended up being a pretty busy morning. Kayson had a basketball tournament in DSM, so Ryan and him were off to that.  Cora and I headed out to Adel mid-morning... she went to Hope's and spent a few hours with her, while I got my hair done.  It was a nice break...

Kayson's team ended up winning a game!  It seems silly, but it was nice to hear, and K did well too.  Had some solid points, so again, nice to hear.  I feel bad for the team... and I know K just wants to win.

Anyway, the rest of our afternoon/evening was nothing... too cold to do anything, so we just stayed in, and worked on a puzzle, played a little, and I cleaned.

Sunday, K had another game in the morning... a loss, so then they were done for the day.  Again, nothing for the rest of the day.  As much as I am enjoying nothing going on... I am looking forward to warmer weather and some baseball with friends!!

Cora didn't have dance this weekend either --- Charlee has COVID.  So sad for her, and the whole studio, but hopefully everything goes smoothly and we can get back to normal again.  Cora has had to practice at home, which is ok, but not ideal.

And today, Monday, I had the day off.  Principal has been giving us 'random' days off for our well-being with all the work from home/COVID stuff... been very nice of them.  So I enjoyed my day off... did some errands, cleaned the house, and sat down.  Perfect.

Weekend/Barefoot Theater 2021

It's cold here.  Like terrible cold.

Friday: We stayed in and did nothing.  Seems to be our normal Friday nights anymore.

Saturday: BUSY.

Kayson had a basketball tournament in Pella... Ryan and him were off around 7ish, Cora and I took our time, and had planned to drive to Pella for the 2nd and 3rd games.  Unfortunately, it started to snow, and didn't end up stopping all morning.  I'm a freak when it comes to weather/roads, etc...  so I opted to stay home.  I felt bad.  Unfortunately, I didn't miss anything at basketball... the team is struggling, three big losses, and I know Kayson was frustrated.  Just stinks.  Not a fun season for them.

Cora and I just hung out... we were pretty lazy, but we did some laundry and played some games together, she practiced her dances... it was a pretty nice day.

Ryan and K got home around 3:30...  then shortly after, Hope and Logan came over.  We hadn't seen them in awhile, and when this Aunt gets a text from her niece saying "I miss you", that's when you plan a pizza night with them.  :)  We ordered pizza, and just hung out.  Good seeing them.

Sunday:

Sunday school was taught, and then it was a big day for Cora.  CESOD had their 2021 Barefoot Theater.  It's all new to us, but basically what it was - a preview of all the competition dances for the year.  ALL of them - all 71.  Yes, 71.  Cora got all dolled up, looking great, and was ready and anxious.  I knew it would be a long day for her, but she didn't care (at the moment!)  We got to the studio - and off the kids were, then I sat with a few other Petite Moms for 4 hours.  Our butts hurt and we were tired!!! But in the end, Cora's group did so good!!  It was so fun seeing them dance.  It was a good day.

As we were leaving, I could see it in Cora's eyes - she was slowly melting!!  She was exhausted, and hungry and just out of it.  We fed her (that perked her up), and she was in bed around 8.  Sleeping 12 hours.  GOOD GIRL.

This is just a preview of what we will experience this year...  It's a lot, and I'm not quite sure if I'm ready for it, but it'll be good.
