Cora - Last day of 5th grade

The end of an ERA - the end of Maple Grove Elementary.  This one tugs at the heart strings.  We've been at MGE forever!!!  Such a good school, good people, good principals.

Cora wrapped up 5th grade - the top of the totem pole!  She really enjoyed 5th grade - an amazing teacher, Mrs. Kramer, who cared, had fun and just is a good person. Cora got to enjoy time in the office too - helping Miss Allie, Nurse Lisa, and other teachers.  I love this about 5th grade, because you just get those fun opportunities.

Now moving on...  on to 6th grade.  This is big, we will see how much she grows over the summer, and if she's ready for South Middle School!

In addition - was the famous 5th grade clap out.  Cora seemed sad and off at the clap out - I knew she would be.  We got home, and instantly she's crying...  I love that girl.

Kayson - Last day of 9th Grade

How in the world?!  Last day of Freshman year - next year, Kayson heads to the Waukee HS next year.

9th grade was a solid year for Kayson - solid grades, with some laziness thrown in there, but that's a 15 year old, right?

Face and hair have changed.

9th Grade baseball

Kayson is out for 9th grade Waukee Warriors baseball team.  With Waukee, it's obviously a very large talent pool...  about 40 kiddos out for just 9th grade.  We were obviously hoping for K to make the A team, or at least start the B team.

Not so much.

This has been a very hard start to 9th grade ball...  just different.  I know Kayson isn't the best player out there, but I'm seeing that last names are the way 'in' and how parents kiss coaches asses.  Not us.  So...  we will push through this season, and hope to see Kayson play some games.  I'm trying to be positive, and turn this into a learning opportunity, and having him push harder...  but it's hard.  It's just a hard thing to swallow and to see your kid out, and not play.

More to come I'm sure...  but the month of June will be busy with double headers in the middle of the day!

New Vet

We've been going to Ashworth Road Animal Hospital for over 20 years... I think.  We went there with Quincy and Murphy... and now Boom.  Unfortunately, my favorite vet left several years ago... but we stayed.  The last few visits for Boomer haven't been the greatest - just not feeling 'loved' and having a hard time connecting with the vet.  I was fed up, so I started searching.

Friday we visited with a different vet at Waukee-Clive Vet.  Her name is Dr. Hufferd, and she was very nice... very kind... interested in Boomer... got on the floor to talk and pet him...  overloaded me with information...  and made me feel like I was not dumb.

We have some things to work on for Boom - he's been licking a lot, so we are going to try an allergy med for him, to see if that will calm that behavior down.  In addition, his anxiety is pretty high.  We are going on a little vacation in July, in which Boomer will need to be boarded...  and that is a lot for him.  So we are trying some calming meds in hopes that will help.  I'm worried.

Regardless, we have some things to try, and I felt comfortable with this new vet.  We will continue to try her and her office, and see how things go.

We love this pup so dang much.

Dance observation

This is always a fun week - parents can gather to observe tumbling, technique and hip hop.  I personally love it... I love seeing that atmosphere, the hard work, and also a little silliness.

This & That

Random things over the past week or so:

  • Lots of rain, but some nice days too - Cora has enjoyed playing outside with her friend Maggie on her trampoline!
  • Kayson is helping the 8U Bombers baseball team (his friend Jaren's brothers team).  Happy that he is helping - but unsure if Kayson feels like he's doing much.  I'm just glad that he's out there doing stuff.
  • Waukee HS baseball has officially started.  Practices daily after school - then games will begin the end of May - typically double headers at 10am.  WHAT?!?!
  • Our sweet Miss Aylah has been having some troubles...  long story short - she's been in the hospital all weekend doing some EEG tests, Xrays and even an MRI.  She's been having seizure like episodes for a couple weeks...  EEG came back great, no seizures...  MRI came back clean as well... all great, but still not definite answers.  It's been a lot, and I'm not even her parents!  Next step is seeing a GI doctor for reflux.
  • Dance is going well - all regional comps are done, now the kids are working on cleaning Recital routines, and also enjoyed the annual sleep over!
