School update (and glasses update!)

We are almost through the first full week of school.
I wanted to write down a quick update.
So far, so good.

Kayson - all is good in life.  He likes school, likes his teacher, loves his friends.
I was worried about how the reading thing would be this year...  he had some STEEP goals last year.  So he kind of struggled... but this year, so far - he's required to just read 20 minutes a night.  Seems simple, so I hope we can stick with it... and not have it be a fight.

This week when we say it's time to read --- Cora is all over it as well.  They have been going into K's room and setting the timer, and reading for 20 minutes, with no fight.  It's been awesome!

Kayson also got his glasses Tuesday night... so Wednesday was the first full day with them.

He looks so cute... and smart!  :)

Cora - all is ok in life.  ha.
She seems to be enjoying school...  better than the first two days.  She's been telling us 'stuff' about her day, what they are doing, and most importantly - what Kayson and his friends do at BTB.  ha.  She's going to be that little sister.

She's been tired, which is expected.  Bedtime is a breeze...  she may fight a little bit to get to her room, but man, once those lights are off... she literally rolls over and she's out.  (I've snuck back in within minutes to check!!!)

So, so far, so good.

and just because she's seriously a spaz!

Sweet

Cora - Lost 1st Tooth

Cora has had her two bottom teeth loose for WEEKS.  She's been playing with them forever, it seems... and each night we've been telling her that we could pull it and it would be done!  A big fat no from her!

Well, I got a call from the nurse at school today (nothing is worse than THAT phone call!)... but it was all good.  Apparently Cora lost her tooth in music class today.  She was apparently all upset (which does not surprise me), but the nurse and Carla (secretary) AND Mrs. Tierney were all in the office and all did their best to cheer her up!

What a little afternoon for Miss Cora.

Weekend

Man, where did the weekend go?!  It went by so darn quick.
Friday:
Kids had good second day of school.  Cora ate.  ha.  She was definitely tired again when I picked her up Friday.  Next week is going to be rough!
Friday over lunch, I was able to hang with Lacey a bit...  got the kids... Friday night we just stayed in.  Kids played outside a bit... and that was it!

Saturday:

Ryan worked all morning.  Kids and I hung out.  Then they got bored with me... went outside and played with Olivia for hours.  Kids actually hung with her for awhile, and I did a few errands, which was super nice.  Then we met Ryan for lunch, and then went to Costco and walked around.
The weather got hot... so the kids wanted to play with water...  so we did that a little, played with the neighbors a little...  pretty good afternoon.

Then we went out to the church and put some furniture back (carpets were cleaned earlier in the week).  We worked hard!!  Got a quick supper... and a pretty quiet Saturday night at home.

Sunday:
Church.
Cora had a little 'date' with a friend, Grant.  They went miniature golfing, which was way cute.  Grant's Mom is sweet, and offered... and heck yeah!  They had a good time.

Most of my Sunday tho was in the car...  I headed to Radcliffe mid afternoon to attend a funeral visitation for my friend Shannon.  I went to college with her, was an RA with her... and she was just the sweetest thing ever.  She died of cancer Friday morning...  she had brain cancer, which she ended up fighting and 'healing' from, but unfortunately, it then spread to her spine and nerves.  Awful.  I was able to meet up with two other ladies from college, which was nice... we talked memories (as much as I could remember - I'm terrible about remembering stuff back then, which worries me!!!), but it was nice to see them... and see/talk with Shannon's family a little.  Tough afternoon.

Ryan and the kids did some errands, and I think that's about it...  I really didn't ask!  Bed was early, the kids have a full week of school ahead of them.  I'm worried about how Cora is going to do...  with BTB in the morning, then full day of school, then BTB in the afternoon. She needs to eat and be good...  it's gonna be tough!

One lonely picture from the weekend.  ha.

Kayson - First day of 4th Grade

Another year has passed.  K had a great summer, but honestly, he was SOOO ready and excited to go back to school this morning.  (We'll see how long that lasts!!!)  ha.
Regardless, we are moving on...  he's excited for his new teacher (apparently, she's who he wanted!), and he has two of his good buddies in his class.

He has a new 'do' on top of his head... a little control paste through his hair, and he's a stud.  (Again, we'll see how long that lasts!)

He said he had a great day and was glad to be with his friends.  Once again... 'easy-peasy'.  :)

Cora - First day of Kindergarten

The day has finally come!!!  Whoohoo!
Mrs. Ziemke provided a great little letter for us to read last night before bed... which included confetti that Cora could put under her pillow (like fairy-dust, she said!) that would help her sleep soundly and wake up refreshed and bright.  I loved it.  :)

At Waukee schools, they have two transition days - so short days for the Kindergartners.  She has school from 9:50-1:40 today and tomorrow... and that was fine, however, we were antsy this morning!!

So we got all dolled up... and took our pictures and got to school early!  Dad met us there, took some more pictures and waited!  She did awesome... and seemed like one of the tallest in her class.  So fun!

She had a good day, however, the teacher said to me when I picked Cora up - "She didn't eat lunch."  Oh dear, seriously.  So we went home... had a snack and then she started to tell me about her day.  I think overall, it was a good day and she wants to go back tomorrow!

Tonight she was really tired, like exhausted.  She didn't eat supper either and just had bags under her eyes.  Bed was right at 8, and she was asleep in minutes.

Here's to a short day tomorrow, and a weekend to recoop!  We'll see how tired she is next week when BTB starts AND a full day of school!  ha.

Cora - Kindergarten Open House

She's going to Kindergarten!!!!
Tonight, along with Kayson, was Open House night at school.  Honestly, (like everything else we do with Cora), I'm never quiet sure how she's going to act.  (I'm ready for some consistency and maturity!)  ha.  Anyway, we visited Kayson's room first. I thought, maybe then she would see how the process works, and she wouldn't be 'scared' when it was her turn.  Seemed to work.

We found our way to Mrs. Ziemke's room.  It was actually the same Kindergarten room that Kayson was in, which was fun!  Anyway, we found her seat at a table, with her school supplies all there.  We followed the instructions on what to do with the supplies and a few other things.  And then we finally talked with the teacher.  Cora talked!  She was quiet, but she talked.  ha.  (again, just never sure what she'll do).  Mrs. Ziemke seems VERY nice, very bubbly, and totally a Kindergarten teacher!  ha.  I think it'll go well... or at least I hope!

Her cubby.  She shares with Lucas.

and she was comfortable by the time we left!

Kayson - 4th Grade Open House

Tonight was 'back to school' night!
We went early... and directly to Mrs. Hakes room.  Kayson found his desk, got his supplies out and was easy-peasy.  We did talk with Mrs. Hakes a little...  told her about our glasses situation!  and honestly that was about it.  Seems super easy after you've done this for 5 years already!!!

Kayson needs GLASSES!!!

Today we had Kayson's annual eye check up.  And as the testing was happening, and continued to happen... I knew something was not right.  He needs glasses for reading... basically anything in the classroom, iPad time, etc.  BUT not for gym time, sports, etc.  So there is one positive about this.

I was a little shocked/overwhelmed when all of this was happening...  Cora was with us (she had already lost interest and was bored, as we had been at the eye doctor for over 50 minutes already), and Ryan was out of town!  But we got a hold of Dad, he talked with Kayson a few minutes.  We picked out a couple frames, and were on our way.

Kayson is a little sad about the whole thing... or at least he was at first.  His eyes started to swell a little when the doctor was telling us the news...  and he just looked sad.  Then when he started trying on frames, he still seemed so bummed. We got in the car, and he was sad.  He just said he was 'bummed'.  But we talked about it a little more (not too much cuz I didn't want to over-do it), and he then seemed better.  He has some friends who have glasses, and he thought it was ok after we talked about them a little.

We'll see how this goes!!!  More to come.

Cora's 6th Birthday

This beauty is 6 years old now!  as of 10:07 this morning, she's 6.  I still remember her arriving, and those first few months with her.  It was the best thing ever...  such sweet sounds from her, so cuddly.  I just can't believe she's 6!!!

Cora May challenges us every day, still to this day.  To be honest, she's really pushed my buttons over the past couple weeks.  Like bad!  She's had a terrible mouth on her (talking back basically), and just hasn't been all that 'fun'.  (I'm just being honest!)  :)  But she can look at me and give me a hug, and all is better in the world.  She has the biggest heart and such a caring little mind.  Along with her being fiesty, she wants the last word, she likes to say "no", she thinks lying is ok, but she's a little girl.  We have to pick our battles with her... and when we do, things go much smoother.  :)

We had a great day tho.  She wrapped up a couple hours with her friends at daycare.  K and I picked her up, went for lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings (her choice), then picked up Beckett and Easton and went to Glazed Expressions to paint!  She LOVED it.  I was a little hesitant once we got there, but she dove right in, and knew exactly what she wanted to do, and concentrated the whole time.  We then just played at the house a little... and she opened her gifts from us.
She had a great day!

Love you so much Cora May.

Basic info:
  • Clothes - The little girl still has a super long torso!  Crazy!  She's wearing 6x for sure, and some brands, she can go to the 7/8 (but sometimes those are pretty wide on her)
  • Shoes - her feet have grown!  We are now in 13s!
  • Diapers - size 7 (bedtime).  Yes, she still does diapers at night (pull-ups are too expensive!)...  so we do diapers.  She's like her brother - SOAKS it at bedtime, sleeps hard.  It's on our list to get this handled (with the alarm system), but not going to lie - I hate the thought of her waking up in the middle of the night!  ha.  #lazymomma
  • iPad lover.  Yep, she uses "her" iPad now, and runs that thing like she's the boss. She watches YouTube videos of dolls, LOLs, dancing and many other little girl things.
  • She's still a singer - except now, she likes to lip-sing and watch herself in the mirror.  So funny.  She's a good little dancer... and I'm anxious to see how she does in true dance (which starts soon!)
  • She's still attached to her 'softie' and blanket - needs them when she's tired/bedtime.
  • Eating is that of a little girl.  or a little Taylor girl!  She still eats the same stuff...  isn't fond of trying new things, but she's growing.  So I guess we are ok.  With school starting, I'm very curious how she will do eating hot lunch at school everyday.  Say a prayer for her!  ha.
  • Bed - she's a great sleeper, always has been.  And now that daycare took away naps (in about May of this year), she falls asleep within MINUTES!  It's the best thing ever!!
  • She's loud.  Just loud.  And she's a talker.  There are many times we have to tell her to just 'be quiet'.  I'm sure others around us don't appreciate that, but she's loud and she interrupts a lot too.  Lots of growing up to do!!!
  • She loves her brother.  Whether she'll contest to that or not.  She LOVES Kayson.

Koalaty Time - ALL DONE!!!

Our daycare has honestly been the best thing ever for us.  It's safe, consistent, a place that our kids learned (way more than we could ever teach them!), and they were loved there.

Cora's last full week of daycare was last week... and this morning, on her birthday, she wanted to spend a couple hours there and bring treats (again, for her birthday!!)  But this is it.  Last day of daycare.  Last day of weekly payments!!!!

What a blessing this place has been and I will never regret taking my children there.
THANK YOU KT!!!

Weekend

Well, Kayson has been off from BTB for a full week now. 3 more full weekdays left. Pray for us!
Monday/Tuesday he was with Ryan's folks.
Wednesday, Ryan and him had a day together.  They did the Iowa State Fair.  And had a great time... I like that they have that tradition.  (Cuz I don't like the fair!!)  ... and it was a good year, cuz Kayson wasn't sick this time!  ha.

Isn't that the funniest thing ever?!?
Thursday, Kayson spent the day with Duke and Brittlyn.  Man, we are lucky to have such great cousins.  They played PS4 or whatever a little, then Brittlyn (now that she's 16) can drive!  So she hauled them to do glow mini golf, and went out for lunch.  Super nice.  She texted me the entire time letting me know where they were, etc.
I picked him up around 3:30, and I could tell they had a blast.  Good day for K.

Friday:
The start of my little time off.  Kayson and I hung out...  he, of course didn't really want to do anything... so we just took it easy.  We did some errands, played outside a little, but that was about it.
Then Friday night we traded my car in.  We drove down to Creston for the swap...  had a quick supper with Mike and JeanAnn, then back on the road.  It was a great little night... but we were all tired!
Saturday:
A quiet morning... then I headed up to Ames to meet up with Hope, Trish, Jill, Eden and Logan's mom.  It was wedding dress shopping day!!!  Man, we had a good time... and to top it off, Hope found her dress!  And THEN... I was asked to be one of her Personal Attendants (with Jill too!) Oooooh, it makes me so happy and I can't wait to be a part of her day!  (Now I just wish Cora had that much excitement!)... we are still working on that!  :)

Ryan took the kids to Hotel Transylvania 3 movie while I was gone.  Then Saturday night we just hung out at home.

Sunday:
Church. Then a fairly quiet day.  Laundry, quick grocery run. And then lots of fighting with the kids.  Unfortunately.  They were both just off today...  crabby, but super obnoxious and both of them were just picking at each other.  As the night went on, it got better... but I was ready for them to be in bed!!

Kayson (AND Cora!!) - a stay with Grandma & Papa

Like the last three years, we've needed Ryan's folks to help out with Kayson.  BTB closes for about a week before school starts, and this year it's closed for 8 days!  Anyway, we have everything situated for the remainder of the time, but Kayson (AND Cora) spent a couple days with Grandma and Papa.

Sunday after church, we just took the kids down to Creston. We dropped them off, and they were heading out the door to go to the farm, to see Grandma Janis.  I know we haven't seen her in awhile, so I sure hope they gave her hugs and she enjoyed seeing them.

They then had a movie night Sunday night.  I think Cora and Tate watched Cars 3, and not sure what K watched!  But they had a good evening.

Monday:
The boys like to go golfing with Grandma.  They borrow a golf cart and go out to the golf course.  This year, Cora was involved.  It honestly just makes me giggle... and I wish I was a fly on that course watching them/her.  From what we heard, she felt it was super important to have her lip gloss on and have a snack in between each hole.  bahaha.  She apparently finished 2 holes (or 'goals' as she calls it).
They played outside with water stuff too.  and then Monday night I think the boys went with Papa and played some baseball.
Busy day!!

Tuesday:
Grandma and the kids made pillows!  Each kid got to pick out their own fabric... helped sew and everything.  So cute, and so fun.  Then they also went up to the 'old school' in Creston - like a one room school house.  Adorable pictures.

They had a great time, and I'm thankful for that.  They were tired, and owly after supper tonight, so early to bed!  Glad to have them home.
